Rev. John Sumiel

Rev. John H. Sumiel was born to John and Mildred Sumiel in Richmond County, Warsaw Virginia in 1962. He moved with his family to New Jersey in 1963 and at an early age accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Salem, New Jersey.

Rev. Sumiel received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology from Jameson School of Ministry in 2003 and previously attended Trenton State College of NJ from 1981 – 1985 studying Urban Recreation Administration. Rev. Sumiel also obtained a certificate in statistical process control from the Management Institute of Rowan University.

Rev. Sumiel was ordained in 2007 by The Bethany Baptist Association of South Jersey under the tutelage of Pastor Emeritus Edward W. Dorn of the Second Baptist Church of Pedricktown, NJ. Rev. Sumiel serves as a member of the volunteer clergy staff at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County in Salem New Jersey and has conducted monthly worship services at the Sunday Breakfast Mission in Wilmington Delaware for homeless men for the last 19 years. Rev. Sumiel was also a previous member of the Second Baptist Church of Pedricktown prison ministry which conducted worship services at the Salem County Correctional Facility. Rev. Sumiel currently serves as the Ministry Leader for Evangelism Ministry of Second Baptist.

Rev. retired from the Department of Homeland Security in 2005. He is married to the lovely Carolyn Sumiel and father of one son (Tyson) and one daughter (Chantel) and three grandchildren. Rev. Sumiel is also a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 3 F&AM of Woodstown, NJ and currently serves as an Associate Minister at Second Baptist Church of Pedricktown.
